The Church, Belonging, and Your Discontent

I was reading this post (follow the link below) and got to thinking about the flip side – why do people leave the church?

One big reason is the unwillingness to be content.

In Philippians, Paul writes about contentment, saying he has found the secret to being content:

“…I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. 12 I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. 13 I can do all things through him who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:11b-13)

It is easier, it seems, for people to grumble and complain, rather than to be content. Setting aside for the moment that Scripture clearly commands us not to grumble or complain (1 Cor 10:1-10, esp. verse 10; Phil 2:14-15; James 5:9), let’s stick with contentment.

Now, what do you think?
